Storm Forecast to Make Landfall as Category 1 Hurricane

Damaging Hurricane-Force Winds and Flooding Rainfall Expected

WEB Beryl is now forecast to make landfall over South Padre Island Texas close to the Texas-Mexico border as a Category 1 hurricane late Sunday. The storm made landfall on Friday in Mexico as a Category 2 hurricane Beryl which then weakened to a tropical storm was expected to strengthen as it tracks toward the south Texas coast late this weekend bringing a risk of damaging winds life.

Beryl is forecast to bring damaging hurricane-force winds to portions of the Texas coast tonight and early Monday. The National Hurricane Center has issued a hurricane warning for the Texas coast from Port Mansfield to Sargent. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for areas north of Sargent to Freeport and south of Port Mansfield to the mouth of the Rio Grande.

In addition to high winds, Beryl is also expected to produce heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for much of the Texas coast, including the Houston and Corpus Christi metropolitan areas. The storm is expected to bring 4 to 8 inches of rain, with isolated amounts of up to 12 inches possible. This rainfall could cause significant flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

Residents in the affected areas should take precautions and monitor the storm's progress closely. Stay up-to-date on the latest forecasts and warnings from the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service. If you are in a low-lying area or an area at risk of flooding, consider evacuating to higher ground.

Beryl is the second hurricane to strike the United States this year. The storm comes on the heels of Hurricane Barry, which made landfall in Louisiana last month. Beryl is expected to be a weaker storm than Barry, but it is still important to take precautions and stay safe.
